Up, Up and Away!

by Ted Blaine

The Rovin’ Pebbles attended the world-famous Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta from October 8-14.

Five RVs (10 members) made the trip to see more than 500 hot air balloons from around the world. Eight of the ten club members had never experienced the annual event. The caravan of RVs stopped for a night in Holbrook, where club members enjoyed a wonderful pot luck dinner before arriving at the Fiesta on Tuesday.

Early Wednesday morning the group witnessed their first mass ascension of balloons. Lots of “oooh and awe’s.”

On Thursday, the winds were blowing too hard (10 mph limit) to fly the balloons. Instead, our campers were resilient and went on a 75-minute trolly tour of Old Town Albuquerque, followed by lunch at the Church Street Cafe.

On Friday, hundreds of beautiful balloons again took to the skies for another spectacular vista of color. Four club members also went to the Anderson-Abruzzo International Balloon Museum. Later that evening the Rovin’ Pebbles went to "Glowdeo,” a special shapes event where all the balloons fired up their burners at ground level, creating a tapestry of color across the five hundred yard launch port. If that wasn’t eye-popping enough, more than 200 drones put on a spectacular light show for the 40,000 fiesta spectators.

But wait, there’s more!

On Saturday morning, the multitude of balloons made their final ascension to the cheers of the crowd. What a treat. That evening, the Rovin’ Pebbles attended the Wagon Master Dinner hosted by wagon masters Debbie & Ted Blaine. At dinner, club members celebrated the wedding anniversary of Debbie & Bill Arsenault.

What a day!

On Sunday, the caravan parted the Fiesta park, three rigs heading east and two rigs home bound.

What a week!.

The Rovin’ Pebbles RV Club of PebbleCreek was established in 1998. The club meets every first Wednesday from September through May at 3:00 p.m. in the Eagles Nest ballroom. If you are interested in joining our club, please join us at our month meeting.

Keep Rovin’!
